Michelene Insalaco
Ms. Insalaco earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She has practiced exclusively in the area of family law since she was admitted to the California Bar in 1992. Ms. Insalaco was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the California Board of Legal Specialization in 2003.
In 2010 Ms. Insalaco is a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of California (FlexCom). This group of 14 Members works to provide continuing education, publish a quarterly newsletter, and review family law legislation on behalf of the 2,700 attorney members of the Bar’s Family Law Section.
Ms. Insalaco is also a member of the Board of Directors and Director North-Elect of the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists (ACFLC). ACFLS monitors legislation and court rules, develops and promotes family law practice skills, and provides advanced educational programs for the bar, judiciary and public.
In 2010 Ms. Insalaco is also the Vice-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF). Ms. Insalaco is also a member of BASF's Minors Counsel Panel, representing children in family law matters.
Ms. Insalaco also serves as a member of the Resolutions Committee of the Conference of California Bar Associations. The Conference brings together attorney volunteers from across the State representing diverse backgrounds, experience, and expertise to seek, debate, and promote legislation to improve the law in California.
A talented legal writer, Ms. Insalaco handles family law appeals in addition to trial-level work. Her appellate experience includes representation in the published cases In re Marriage of Edlund & Hales (1998) 66 Cal.App.4th 1454; Ragghanti v. Reyes (2004) 123 Cal.App.4th 989; and In re Marriage of Blazer (2009) 176 Cal. App. 4th 1438.
While Ms. Insalaco's practice focuses on complex, high-asset cases, she is dedicated to giving back to her community. She has received twelve Outstanding Volunteer of the Year awards from BASF, is a member of the Policy Board of BASF's Volunteer Legal Services Program, and in 2004 received BASF's James P. Preovolos Award, given annually to one family law attorney for outstanding pro bono services in family law. In 2008 Ms. Insalaco received an Angel Award from California Lawyer Magazine, given annually to just a few attorneys throughout California in recognition to their commitment to pro bono work.
